Software translates Bahasa Indonesia into 200 local and 14 world languages

Friday December 08, 2006

PT Intralink Sinergi has just launched its software translator program which is capable of translating Bahasa Indonesia into 200 different local languages in and 14 foreign languages, said the company’s President Director, Mohammad Teguh Setiabasa in Bandung recently, as reported by Media Indonesia.

The fourteen foreign languages include English, French, German, French, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese and Indian.

Also equipped with sound, application of the program is simple and its grammar is 80 percent accurate, claims Teguh.  The program is applied on Microsoft Word Document Translation and is already in use in a number of government and military offices. Planned to be widely promoted in 2007, the software is as yet not openly marketed for fear of being pirated, said Teguh Setiabasa.

The company plans to add more local as well as foreign languages to add to its usefulness. “This is the only one of its kind software produced in by Indonesians, and we are proud of this achievement” said Intralink President Director.

Indonesia comprises more than 300 ethnic groups speaking as many local languages, although since Independence in 1945 the country’s official language is Bahasa Indonesia, and is the language taught in schools.  The younger generation, especially those brought up in the cities, therefore, now hardly speak their own mother tongue.  This software will help them to translate Indonesian texts into local languages and vice versa.
