Suka Koleksi goes back to the economic crisis that hit Indonesia in 1998. Due to low prices, the export of furniture became a booming business. The then jobless accountant, the present owner of Suka Koleksi Oka Pidada made the boldest step of his life and started a small workshop in his own back garden trying to make a living out of his former hobby, i.e. making furniture. Suka Koleksi was founded in 2000.
At first Mr. Oka started finishing teak furniture bought in Java, but it did not take long before he began making furniture of his own design. As good quality teak wood became more expensive and more difficult to obtain; he started producing furniture from coconut wood with coconut shell inlays.
Over time he experimented with the use of resin as a basis for furniture to overcome the problems wooden furniture often experiences in countries with a colder and less humid climate than Indonesia. He also experimented with various new natural materials for inlays. In this way Suka Koleksi gained its reputation for its characteristic Indonesian design with in a modern look.
